Saturn On Campus
From the introduction of Saturn automobiles to the American market in 1990, Anchor Education's Karen Whitaker and Dr. Jerry Fecht have been involved with the company's college-marketing initiatives. Instrumental in the creation of Saturn On Campus, our personnel helped to build programs that speak to college women and men about being committed to campus life, supporting student activities and the overall importance of teamwork.
Karen Whitaker worked with graphic design firm, Eells Rastovich Creative Services, to create an ad congratulating the winner of the National Saturn Teamwork Award.
Saturn On Campus reached its college audience through a three-part program:
- Saturn Award, a program to personally communicate Saturn's values, ideals and philosophy to students and faculty by recognizing excellence in teamwork. Winning student teams made a difference on their campuses and in their community by starting recycling programs, creating mentorship projects with local elementary schools, and providing food and shelter for the homeless;
- Campus Activities Support Program, an element that allowed Saturn to become a visible partner with students' activities through support of important campus-wide events and organizations, including volunteer weeks, popular festivals, leadership institutes and talent showcases;
- Saturn On Site, a direct, on-campus physical presence for introducing students and faculty to Saturn vehicles.
America's campuses provided a unique opportunity for Saturn to create a greater awareness for both the company and the car by integrating the company's name into campus lifestyle activities. The Saturn team didn't have to look any further than the jammed parking lots of California's burgeoning colleges and universities to recognize that the automobile and commuting student were where the market is.
- 1 of 14 American college students commutes by car to a California community college.
- 1 of 4 American college freshmen/women is enrolled in a California college or university.
