Spring Spectacular

Every March, more than 7,000 people flock to America's Teaching Zoo at Moorpark College to enjoy a myriad of activities at the Annual Spring Spectacular.

Anchor Education has worked with the zoo the past four Spring Spectaculars to secure sponsors for the event, including Adelphia, Aquaria, Hummer, Kavlico Corporation, Land Rover, The Ventura County Star, and Zany Brainy.

The six-day event includes a number of special attractions aimed at families with young children and entertainment delightful for all ages.

Wildlife Theater, a thematic show featuring the zoo's students and animal actors
Kid’s Fun Zone, a center of all-day activity for children including arts and crafts tables, and games
Eye-To-Eye Theater, fun and informative wildlife education shows featuring animals from America’s Teaching Zoo
Creature Feature, shows featuring fascinating animals from dogs trained for search and rescue missions to animals that have starred on the silver screen

America's Teaching Zoo is a non-profit facility, operated by the staff and students of the Exotic Animal Training and Management (EATM) Program. The EATM program is the only one of its kind and attracts students nationwide and from abroad. Students of the program are dedicated to enriching the lives of the zoo's 150 birds, mammals, and reptiles, while presenting educational shows at the zoo, area schools and at various venues.

While the zoo is underwritten by Moorpark College, it must raise tens of thousands dollars each year to fulfill the unique needs of its animals. Money is raised through the presentation of educational animal shows, and the rest is raised through special fund-raisers such as the Spring Spectacular.
